This is a so-so book from Penny Jordan. The usual alpha male hero & the not so meek heroine. Since this was written years ago, the dynamics between H & H are bordering on abusive. Anyways, I just completing my PJ collection.
I honestly love Penny Jordan story. But I absolutely hate this one. There nothing bothers me more than female lead was mentally abuse by the male lead and along other things and gets a happy ending.
I can not understand how anyone could put up with that man and have any tender feelings for him. He’s abusive. There is no way he won’t continue to be abusive. And as for Susannah’s friends who want to help them clear up the “misunderstanding†they are enablers. A real friend would have kept him as far away from her as possible!
Back of the cover - Susannah was a successful writer for Tomorrow magazine, but the new managing director - the dynamic Hazard Maine - made it clear that he thought she was cheating her way to the top. It didn't help their working relationship, either, that Susannah found him devilishly attractive. So attractive that she allowed him to believe the worst of her; so that she wouldn't be tempted to fall in love with him! Why, when he despised her, id he insist on singling her out?Really find it annoying when the hero thinks he knows everything and treats the heroine as such. All because of his preconceived notions! Could understand better if he had been directly involved in the hurt that caused him to carry around this preconceived idea but he was NOT one of the players in that. He was a child!!! At any rate, we are subjected to all of Hazard's cruelties towards Susannah through most of the book yet we only get a few short pages of his grovelling. I think he should have grovelled more. Especially after he had deliberately allowed her to think he was in love with her and that he told her in so many words that he didn't really care for her; she turns catatonic and he attempts to seduce her or rape?
This book is for readers who enjoy the alpha hero type personality that Penny Jordan is known for. Those of us that love this kind of hero enjoy these books.These type of heroes cannot be compared to or reviewed against modern heroes written today. It's a different type of hero. For those who enjoy a take charge, over bearing, arrogant, alpha hero. We also enjoy that these heroes usually have to repent deeply at the end of the story. It's something that certain readers enjoy whole heartedly.
