This first in the Paranormals of Avynwood series is a spin-off of the Ariane Trilogy. This book can stand alone, but a reader would enjoy all the packs stories and gain so much insight from their history after indulging in Orion and Ariane's books. Wake and Paige are fated to be mates and this is their journey to finally coming together. Wake is a member of the Avynwood pack that are not only wolf shifters but some have other magical gifts as well. They are friends with Fae and vampires, all of whom are a giant entertaining handful! This book is perfect for teen and young adult readers right on up to adults.Wake is working on getting back in the right head space to live easily within his pack and claim Paige. He's been through a terrible ordeal and has suffered mightily to get where he is currently. He doesn't trust anything and it's keeping him from his best life. Luckily he's got the vampire brothers Ford and Solomon to keep him moving in the right direction, toward Paige and his pack.We get a whole lot of mental conversations that are normal for shifters, some are hilarious. I found myself drifting a bit and wanting to get past some of the inner dialog and self flagellation from Wake. Once he made up his mind, oh boy did the story take off and keep me entertained. There is some danger and Paige's fears coming true that have the pack all working together to keep her safe. I love all these characters and the way of pack life. I'm happy Paige and Wake got their HEA. That ending, Michelle, really?
The Avynwood Pack is back and sassier than ever! If you read The Ariane Trilogy then you're familiar with the shifters of Avynwood, their human mates and friends and their vampire and fae allies. Most of the characters make appearances and of course the fan favorites return. This time it's Wake and Paige who get their story told. If you have not read The Ariane Trilogy I would recommend it. It explains more about the Avynwood Pack, you get to read about Ariane and Orion's story and get background on Wake and Paige.I still don't know who my favorite couple is, but I do love Wake and Paige. I think the whole pack ships Wake and Paige. Waige? Pake? Ahem. Wake and Paige have a complicated "relationship" and everyone is trying to help them. It was hard to see both of them go through so much torment. You feel for Wake because of his past, but at the same time you want to shake him and scream at him. Paige is struggling and she's torn between the wolf she wants and living a life with someone who wants her. Of course there's angst! Look at this couple! We knew there would be angst! There is also comic relief. Usually in the form of the irresistible Verascue brothers. Ford is definitely my favorite, but Solomon is growing on me. Their banter made me laugh out loud and any scene they are in is instantly better. The introduction of a new character was a mixed bag for me. How am I supposed to feel about someone who is the opposition? The new guy could be a threat to Wake and Paige's happiness, but you don't really hate him. And that's kind of a problem. The new guy is a Gary Stu. Not much personality. He was a catalyst, a tool to move the story forward and it seemed like a disservice.*Spoilers* Silas is brave in the wake of the pissed off paranormals around him. Is it male bravado? Ignorance? Does he have a story? We don't find out, because once he's served his purpose he's persona non grata. Bye, Silas! Silas, who? I know it's supposed to be about Wake and Paige and he helped push them together, but Paige makes a stink about wanting to keep Silas in her life, but then he's never mentioned again. Until the epilogue. Sorry, Simon. I mean, Silas. :/The big bad of the story was interesting as it pertained to the past. (See: The Ariane Trilogy) Except they weren't that big and bad. Devious, definitely. Annoying as hell, check. Deadly, but they didn't have the menace of Travis. But once the "battle" broke out it was over fast. It felt like it was rushed. Boom. Problem solved.*Spoilers* Kylest showing up and helping was really convenient. I know it was explained, but it just seemed like a very easy fix to get Paige out of her dilemma.Wake's Claim is a fun read that pulls you into the story and makes you laugh, pulls on your heartstrings and makes you cheer for the happy couple. Michelle Dare delivers on giving you characters with heart and humor and who also feel real and raw. I appreciate that they're all multidimensional. Except maybe Gary Stu, I mean, the new guy. And if I';m going to nit pick the baddies were kind of one dimensional. "We're evil, because it's fun to be evil! Mwhahaha!" It is still a great read and I look forward to the next story, which I believe is Ford's. Yay Ford!I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Michelle delivers again . This book will give you all the feels. Paige and Wake’s story is truly amazing and beautifully written. Once I started reading I couldn’t stop.
