I'm going to give it 5 stars but know its not perfect. Still this is probably the most high level, yet still comprehensive review of the material to prepare you for the PE exam. I bought this book, read it cover to cover, and used it to help me solve the problems in the practice test. I also bought the FE reference manual and a very old edition of Mark's handbook. I was able to pass the matls and machine design exam on my first try. I'm 11 years out of school and consider myself a VERY good test taker.If you don;t have a lot of time and will be cramming a couple weeks before the exam you will get much more out of this book than the thicker, more expensive review manuals. It covers the breath of the exam but maybe not the depth.
This was one of my primary references for the PE exam. I found it very well organized and covered the majority of topics in areas that I was relatively weak in. Highlights were the sections on time-temperature-transformation of metals (steel alloys) and bolts/welds.I plan on keeping this book in the event I need information to do some quick calculations on other projects, just so I have an idea of rough orders of magnitude.
I passed the PE Exam I went in there with 3 three books and notes. I passed only using this book and some notes.Full disclosure: I am a former student of Prof. Kennedy.Buy this book and the NCEES PE Practice Exam. This book is worth twice the cost.
probably the best book in the market to cover all the required syllabus in the form of a review including small example. I solved ALL 80 problems from NCEES practice exam using this Review book.price is less, compact in size, covers to maximum extent as needed for PE exam prep.thanks
Hands down one of the best study materials out there. Dr. Kennedy makes engineering look easy with his clear and concise explanations on each subject topics. I would highly recommend this to anyone studying for the P.E exam as it is invaluable. Great reference material to have in the exam room.
My entire study plan consisted of going through this book, plus the NCEES practice exam. I also leafed through the "6 minutes solutions" booklet for maybe 30 minutes. For the exam itself I brought the aforementioned practice exams, the MERM, the FE Handbook and this book. I used only the last two for 95% of the problems. I passed on the first try pretty comfortably.This approach will not work for everyone, but if you found the FE easy and generally are a good test-taker you can pass with just this book plus a practice exam (30~40 hours total).
